Winter Can't Stop "The Launch!"

When ice storms forced TSA students to stay home, the usual school day suddenly changed. This post shares how video conferencing, a virtual scavenger hunt, and simple workouts like burpees helped students stay connected and healthy during unexpected school closures.

Starting the Day with Coach Kelvin On Screen!

Instead of gathering in the TSA gym or kitchen, students joined a Zoom call to kick off the day together. Coach Kelvin’s upbeat attitude and clear instructions helped everyone feel connected despite being apart. It stared with a virtual scavenger hunt!

How the Virtual Scavenger Hunt Worked

Instead of running around the school, students searched their homes for specific items. Coach Kelvin called out clues or descriptions, and students raced to find objects and show them on camera.

Here’s how the scavenger hunt was organized:

  • Coach Kelvin prepared a list of common household items and fun challenges

  • Students joined the Zoom call with their cameras on and ready to move

  • Each round, Coach Kelvin announced an item or task, such as “Find something metal” or “Bring a baby picture” or even go get a snowball!

  • Students had a limited time to find the item and hold it up for everyone to see

This game encouraged students to think quickly and explore their surroundings. It also sparked laughter and friendly competition, making the day feel less like a school closure and more like a special event.

Burpees and Staying Active at Home

Physical activity is important for both body and mind, especially when stuck indoors. Burpees are a full-body exercise that combines squats, jumps, and push-ups, making them effective for building strength and endurance.

Benefits of burpees for students at home:

  • Boost heart rate and energy levels

  • Improve coordination and balance

  • Help reduce stress and improve mood

  • Require no equipment and little space

Many students shared their burpee counts, turning it into a fun challenge.

Encouraging Everyone to Share Their Stories

The TSA students’ creative adaptations show how challenges can bring out the best in us. Whether it was joining a Zoom call, hunting for household items, or doing burpees, these activities kept learning alive and bodies moving.

If you or your child experienced remote learning or unexpected school closures, share your story. How did you stay engaged? What activities helped you feel connected? Sharing ideas can inspire others to find new ways to adapt and thrive.
